Adekunle Soname Biography

Adekunle Soname hails from Remo, Ogun State, in the South-Western part of Nigeria. However, he grew up in Lagos state, where he did his secondary education at the Federal Government College, and later proceeded to the Lagos State University, where he obtained his first degree.

Although there’s a scarcity of the billionaire’s personal information on the internet, he’s married to Kemi Soname, and the marriage is blessed with a daughter, Erioluwa Soname.

Kunle Soname picked interest in politics early and was elected as the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Government between October 2003 and October 2011. It was after the end of his tenure as a Chairman that he launched his first business—Bet9ja.

Kunle Soname launched the Bet9ja gaming company on September 10, 2013, alongside Ayo Ojuroye, who’s the company’s CEO. The business trade name, ‘KC Gaming Networks Limited’ is licensed under the Lagos State Lotteries Board. It eventually turned out to be his breakthrough in the business sector.

He also introduced offline betting in Nigeria, which wasn’t widely practised at then. However, most people who could not place bets online were required to visit one of the offline gaming centres to pick matches and bet.

The Bet9ja company s involved in both online and offline betting. Online betting is simply for those who own a smartphone or have access to the internet. Today, Bet9ja is a major online bookmarker company that offers bets on major sporting events operating in Nigeria.

Kunle Soname became the first Nigerian to own a club in Europe. He bought Desportivo Feirense in 2016, which is two years after launching Bet9ja. Desportivo Feirense is a second-division football club in Portugal, and he owns up to 70% of the club’s shares. He is also a proud owner of Remo FC, a club in the Nigerian Football League (NFL).

In September 2018, the business mogul launched another business, Value Jet, an airline company, with the main sponsorship of the first 50km Remo ultra race that was held in his homestead of Remo.

When the company started in 2019, ValueJet operated with two Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft that seat up to 90 passengers in economy, and he hoped to see his airline eventually fly long haul to Europe and North America sooner.
