For car brands like Mercedes, the target is to get to go Zero emissions by the next 10 years. But, car experts say Mercedes has continued to leave combustion vehicles on sale, and there’s no assurance the car brand is ready to make that switch to Zero emission in 10 years’ time.
However, the Volvo automaker seems to be sure of the goals the company will achieve in the next five years. Speaking to a publication, the Volvo Car CEO, Jim Rowan, said the automaker is going all in on the future rather than throwing money at “old technology.”
When asked by Autonews if the company will invest in an internal combustion engine in 2029, Rowan said: “Maybe we sacrifice a little bit [in sales], but I think we gain a lot more than we sacrifice.”
Volvo’s move towards 100% EV seems realizable as the Volvo automaker showed car dealers its five-year plan to move towards EV. Only on Wednesday, 7th, 2023, the company also launched its first and newest EV—an affordable Compact Crossover, the Volvo EX30, which is marked as the smallest, yet the fastest accelerating Volvo yet.
