In a recent video that appeared online, a Nigerian man laments bitterly concerning the deplorable state of the Sapele-Benin highway.
The video shows how completely ruined the major road is, as vehicles struggle to pass through the road, thereby causing heavy traffic along the major road.
The video was posted by the Instagram account @carcontinent with the caption:

“First hand I saw what people who travel from Benin to delta state through Sapele road suffer. Edo state governement says its a federal government road, Delta state Government says the same thing while they watch people spend 5-8 hours on the road and have their cars get spoilt. These folks do not even travel through these roads so they do not care, their children do not go through this too.”

Many Nigerians weighed in on the video saying:
@actingbigman1 commented: “This is delta state in particular after Koko junction heading to the boundary. The sitting governor is a self acclaimed road master. Delta state is heavily indebted yet infrastructural bankrupt. When you tell people the truth they bring politics into it now all political party loyalists are trapped here while politicians fly domestic and international. The guy whose car broke down might be from the ruling pdp funny enough. Warri to benin used to be 45 minutes these days if you make it 2 hours 30 minutes you are lucky. Same money released into rivers state that did major capital projects was also released into delta state but nothing to show for. Delta state debts almost 1 trillion naira. 😢”
@phorlla_b commented: “Sadly , the problem is the state Government do not have the interest of its people at heart. I don’t know if they are trying to play party politics and shift the blame on the federal government because it’s a federal road. On several occasions, we’ve seen Gov Wike fix fedral government roads and knows he’ll get reimbursed for it. I just think these people do not care.”
@damianebii commented: “Sometime in 2018 or Maybe 2019, the Minister of Works told the State Government to cease maintaining Federal roads that they will not be reimbursed. This caused many state governments to withdraw from maintaining Federal roads. I recall the state of this road just after Sapele towards Effurun, the state government took responsibility and it was after the Minister made the comment. However, the state for the benefit of his people can be gracious to fix these roads before they get worse.”
@jtwsolutionsltd commented: “We’ve travelled all over Nigeria and can tell you for free that the Governors of those states, Fed Government and the Fed.Minstry of Works and Housing do not care about how much commuters suffer on the road. We have leaders without feeling and conscience.”
@dncautosltd commented: “This road has always been like this before I was born, now I’m getting old and the same road remains the same. 📍🇳🇬😭”
