For over 12 years, the Toyota Highlander has maintained one defining look. But with the 2023 Toyota Highlander set to hit the market, the brand has given the new model a facelift that differentiates it from the 2010 model. Apart from the facelift, the vehicle has undergone other changes in other areas.

Here are some of the new features of the 2023 Highlander and how it differs from the 2010 model.

Overview of the 2023 Toyota Highlander

The 2023 Toyota Highlander comes with 11 trims(L, LE, Hybrid LE, XLE, Hybrid XLE, XSE, Hybrid XLE Bronze Edition, Hybrid Bronze Edition, Limited, Hybrid Limited, Platinum, Hybrid Platinum) to choose from. Also available are hybrid and non-hybrid powertrains. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional with the 2023 model.

All eleven trims provide competent handling and a smooth ride. The interior of the Highlander is also nicely equipped down to the base trim. The base trim also has modern convenience features, like the easy-to-use infotainment and many standard driver-assistance features.

In the 2023 Highlander, the standard V6 engine has been replaced by a new turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder. The new engine makes 265 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque.

There’s also a new 12.3-inch infotainment display available and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that now comes on the Limited and Platinum trims.

Infotainment & Connectivity Of The 2023 Toyota Highlander

Standard in most of the trims is an 8.0-inch infotainment system. But, the Highlander Limited and Platinum get a 12.3-inch display with a secondary 12.3-inch screen serving as the gauge cluster.

The Mid-range XLE and XSE can be optioned with the larger 12.3-inch infotainment display but continue using analogue gauges from lower-end models. An 11-speaker JBL audio system is equally available. Toyota provides SiriusXM satellite radio, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and Apple  CarPlay, Andriod Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration for all models. A wireless smartphone charging pad is also optional and is integrated into the dashboard below the infotainment.

Driver Safety Features In The 2023 Toyota Highlander

There are several safety features included in the 2023 Toyota Highlander. They include;

  • Standard Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Standard Lane-keeping Assist
  • Standard Automated Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Standard Automatic High-Beam Headlamps

2010 Toyota Highlander Overview

The 2010 Toyota Highlander comes in four different trims (Base, Sport, SE & Limited). It comes with a sunroof option on base four-cylinder models and an available rearview camera that’s offered on base V6-powered trims. The 2010 Highlander is basically a crossover between a sports-utility vehicle and a sedan.

2010 represents the second generation of the Highlander. The base model comes with a 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine, but it also has a 3.5-litre V6 engine which is the main attraction because of the balance of performance and good fuel economy.

The interior of the 2010 Highlander is also comfortable for seven passengers, though the third row is tighter than the other rows.

The more popular powertrain of the 2010 Highlander is the 3.5-litre V6 that produces 270 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque. It has a five-speed automatic, and front-wheel drive is standard, while there’s the optional all-wheel drive.

The 2010 Highlander comes with a handful of safety features like;

  • Antilock Disc Brakes
  • Stability Control
  • Hill-Start Assist (helps to keep the vehicle from rolling backwards when driving away from a stop).

The all-wheel-drive has an additional feature;

  • Downhill Assist (helps the driver make a slow, controlled descent on steep, slick surfaces like snow-covered driveways).

2023 Or 2010 Toyota Highlander?

In every angle, the 2023 Toyota Highlander beats the 2010 model. Not only is 2010 an old model vehicle with outdated features and design, but 2023 also comes equipped with modern features that beat the 2010 both in appearance and performance.

The only reason anyone will choose the 2010 Highlander over the 2023 model will be price related. The base trim of the 2023 Highlander price is $37,755, while the highest trim, the Hybrid Platinum, costs $52,010.

Conclusion

The Highlander has come a long way from what it was in 2010. With the 2023 model, there have been a lot of new upgrades and advancements that meet modern requirements.

Therefore, if you can afford to, the 2023 model is a better option. Even the base trim is better than the highest trim of the 2010 model.
