Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer founded by Elon Musk, delivered its first Semi trucks to customers on Thursday at its Gigafactory in Nevada. The trucks, which were first unveiled in concept back in 2017, were supposed to go into production in 2019. However, due to various factors, such as the global parts shortage and the COVID-19 pandemic, the team was not able to deliver them on time.
PepsiCo, which completed its first cargo run with the Tesla truck to deliver snacks for those attending the Nevada launch event, had ordered 100 trucks in 2017, and was on hand to receive them. Tesla, which showcased the vehicle’s features, noted that the Semi can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 20 seconds.
The company noted that its battery can travel up to 500 miles. It also said that the price of its battery is $150,000 (112,5000,00).

While referring to the Semi as “a beast,” Musk commented on stage at the event:
“It looks sick. You want to drive that. I mean, that thing looks like it came from the future.”
In 2017, Tesla had said the 300-mile range version of the Semi would cost $150,000, and the 500-mile version $180,000, but Tesla’s passenger electric vehicle prices have increased sharply since then.
Robyn Denholm, chair of Tesla, recently said the automaker might produce 100 Semis this year. Musk has said Tesla would aim to produce 50,000 of the trucks in 2024.
