Many are still speculating whether the name is about the “Highland” fantasy film. Still, the project aims to chop the number of parts used to build the Model 3, thereby giving the updated Model 3 a major facelift.
The report of the update on the Tesla comes from Reuter, the news service said it spoke to four sources with information on the plans.

According to the news publication Reuter, the revamp of the Model 3 is a way for Tesla to cut down on production costs as well as to entice buyers through visual changes to the car.
It’s been almost six years since the Model 3 was first introduced, and it’s never received any facelifts. But, an updated Model 3 with the code name “Highland” is underway, and the production is expected to start in the third quarter of next year.
It’s been a while since Tesla did a major update on a car. The last major update was swapping the steering wheel of the Model S for the yoke setup and switching to horizontal screen orientation, something the Model 3 already possesses.
Another notable reason Tesla seems to be updating its Model 3 is the increased pressure from the competition, especially in China.
The Model 3 remains Tesla’s cheapest car offering, with a starting price of $48,440.
Reuters notes that the facelifted Model 3 will undergo production at Tesla’s Shanghai, China, and Fremont, California factories.
