Should you be concerned about water coming out of your car’s exhaust pipe? Many people are naturally accustomed to little or no smoke (smoke) coming out of their car exhaust, but not water. This is one of the reasons why new car owners panic when they see water coming out of their car’s exhaust, but it’s not always as bad as one might think.

To keep these folks in the loop, here are the five most common causes of water leaks from car exhausts. If you notice water leaking from the exhaust system “tailpipe” of your vehicle, it’s usually not a big deal, so don’t panic. Yes, this phenomenon usually results from the normal wear and tear of cars in good condition.

However, there are a few cases where the cause of water leakage from the exhaust pipe of the car is abnormal, so extreme caution is required. Read the highlighted points below to understand when to panic and when not to panic.

Engine heat

This is one of the most common and normal causes that should not cause panic, especially if you live in a very cold area or have a “cold” season. In such cases, water often comes out of the car’s exhaust because the car’s engine usually gets very hot to keep it functioning.

Most components in a car’s engine generate more heat during these times due to the cold environment, especially if it is parked for a while. So what you’re seeing is just water vapour formed from a combination of heat from the engine and cool air from the surroundings. The water should dry on its own in a few minutes. Water vapour escaping from car exhaust can be the result of heat from the engine combined with the cool surrounding air.

Condensation

Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) usually produce a mixture of water and carbon dioxide just after the engine has been running for a long time or has just “warmed up” for a few minutes.

So, if the vehicle is actually given time to cool down, some of the remaining “exhaust gases” will eventually exit the internal chamber through the tailpipe.

This process of condensing exhaust gases seems to be the cause of the water that normally drips out of a car’s tailpipe.

Catalytic Converter

As a new car owner, you probably don’t even understand the components of your car’s exhaust system, let alone how to troubleshoot or check a failing catalytic converter.

In this particular situation, you don’t need all this knowledge, so don’t panic. But keep in mind that the catalytic converter could be the culprit for the water coming out of the exhaust.

This is not a bad thing. Catalytic converters are a “good” or “normal” thing because they help reduce the size of the toxic carbon gas emitted from your car’s tailpipes.

Thus, a small amount of water vapour can be released from the car’s exhaust as a result of the decontamination process of the noxious gases originally produced by the engine. The catalytic converter is a component of a car’s exhaust system that removes water from the exhaust system, which may be discharged. Exhaust

Failed Piston (Abnormal Cause)

Of the entire list of causes of water coming out of a car’s exhaust pipe, this is the only one that is actually called “very bad” or just “abnormal”.

This particular case isn’t that hard to spot, as you’ll notice water coming out of your car’s exhaust pipe, as well as a lot of smoke/smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe at the same time. Now is the only time to panic.

In fact, in addition to the water and thick smoke coming out of your car’s exhaust pipe, you may also notice a “burnt” smell inside your car. If you notice a combination of these signs, park your car and avoid driving until you have a mechanic check to see what’s wrong.

If you notice any of these signs, you should tow the car to the nearest garage and have it checked by a professional, especially the piston rings and pistons inside the car.

Human Causes (don’t underestimate)

If you have kids with garage access, you should probably be aware that if they mess around, they can pump water up your car’s exhaust pipes.

This may be why you notice water suddenly coming out of the tailpipe when you try to drive it. It is highly recommended to keep the water hose, water bucket, and faucet closed when your child is having fun in the car to avoid “moving stories”.

Conclusion

In addition to the top 5 causes of water coming out of your car exhaust pipe above, water can also get into your car exhaust while driving. Also, remember that you are in flooded areas. So don’t be surprised if you see tiny droplets coming out of your exhaust when you finally park your car at home. Don’t panic, keep calm and let it dry after a while.
