During the first three quarters of 2021, the German automaker’s electric Taycan model line outsold the Tesla Model S and X by more than two-to-one, resulting in a 13 per cent increase in overall sales for the brand.

Porsche delivered 28,640 Taycan sedans and wagons around the world, compared to 13,185 Tesla Model S cars and Model X SUVs, which are combined in Tesla’s figures.

The Model S was out of production for the majority of the year while Tesla moved to an updated version despite an ongoing semiconductor shortage, and deliveries of the new version didn’t start until June, while a new Model X was just released to consumers last week.
The Taycan has already outsold another key model, the Porsche 911, with a full-year 2020 figure of 20,015 units sold. During that time, Porsche sold 27,972 of its classic sports cars, up 10% from the previous year. In the United States, the Taycan outsold the 911 by 7,228 to 6,729.
Porsche’s SUVs, the Cayenne and Macan, outperformed both models, with global sales of 62,415 and 61,944 respectively through September.
