If you’re a good driver in Lagos, you may earn NGN 350,000 by the end of the month. You’d earn NGN 280,000 if you were in Abuja, although the national minimum wage is NGN 35,000. Earnings for bolt drivers are determined by two factors: performance and efficiency.
With over 10,000 bolt drivers in Nigeria, it is no surprise that crimes against them continue to occur, and one of them shares his experience in Ibadan when several auto thieves attempted to drug him and take his car.

This particular driver related that he picked up two clients somewhere in Ibadan, and as they began to move, they pleaded with him that they wanted to smoke with the window wound up, and although he initially opposed, he eventually yielded to them when they insisted it was “smokeless.” After a while, his eye began to hurt him and he requested to halt the trip, but they promised him more tip, so he insisted and parked where it was populated and urged that they get out of his car, and despite their argument, they got out and paid for the drive.
When this driver got home, he slept off immediately and he was sick for three days after that, it was later that he got to know that whatever the passenger had smoked was a local sedative designed to knock him out. That explains why they insisted on smoking with the glass winding up.
If he had accepted the extra money, he would have lost his automobile by now, or worse, been abducted.
Please, let’s be cautious, this country is a very dangerous place now, no one is above mistake.
