2012 Honda Accord (Evil Spirit) Review and Price

It is no doubt that the Honda brand is one of the most popular car brands in the country. It is a very formidable contender in the ever-competitive world of mid-size sedans, competing fiercely against the likes of the Toyota duo, Corolla and Camry. Having been around for many years in Nigeria, the Honda Accord has been rewarded with many purchases and, of course, nicknames. Does Evil Spirit sound familiar?

Overview and performance

If there’s anything that is true about the 2012 Accord, it is that it spoils its buyers with different options in segments and in trim levels. The 2012 Accord has representatives in both the sedan segment and the coupe segment. While the coupe has just three trim levels — LX-S, EX, and EX-L — the sedan segment has five trim levels, including LX, LX-P, SE, EX and EX-L. The two engine versions available for these trims are 2.4L four-cylinder and 3.5L V-6 engines with a five-speed manual or automatic transmission. Only the V-6 coupe has a 6-speed manual transmission. The 2.4 L four-cylinder engine is available with 177 hp and 190 hp output while the V-6 engine boasts of 271 hp. And with the 271 horsepower, the car quickly shoots to a top speed in no time. Also, with all these engine options, the 2012 Accord promises to be a powerful ride.

When it comes to fuel economy, the 2012 Accord is not that impressive, as the 2.4-L engines have an estimated fuel economy of 23 mpg within the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The 3.5 L V-6 engine isn’t any better as it has an estimated fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway for the sedan. The V6 coupe has 19 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

In addition, the suspension is well optimized for sharp responsiveness and comfort. The car corners eagerly and accelerates swiftly. But on the other hand, the brakes, though quite powerful, still take some time to bring the car completely to a stop from a high speed, especially when it is compared with other cars in its category.

Although there is more than enough space in the 2012 Accord, there is still much left to be said about the design and some construction materials. The cabin, for instance, isn’t spectacular. There really isn’t anything thrilling to see in and around the cabin, and the numerous buttons that fill up the dashboard do not help matters. Also, it is worthy of note that the quality of materials used doesn’t quite reach the standards Honda has set in the previous generations of the Accord.

But like I said, the space in the car kind of makes up for what it lacks in design, especially the backseat space. As a matter of fact, the backseat is one of the biggest among other midsize sedans, offering enough headroom and legroom for the occupants. Although the boot isn’t all that big, the way it is designed would likely make you think otherwise.

2012 Honda Accord Safety

Of course, there are basic safety features, such as the antilock disc brakes, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, stability and traction control, and active head restraints. The other safety features include the anti-whiplash and seatbelt pretensioners. What the seatbelt pretensioners do is that they tighten around the seat occupant so that the occupant is sitting in an optimal seating position.

In addition, the 2012 Honda Accord rates well in a series of safety tests that it was put through by the appropriate bodies in the United States.
