After Kia revealed the radically designed K8 not too long ago, we now have a look at the facelifted K9 flagship. Now, this Kia K9 is an FWD-based luxury sedan, like a Lexus ES or Toyota Avalon. The K9, formerly the K900 was an RWD-based high end luxury saloon, built on the same chassis as the current Genesis G90. Though the upcoming ground-up new G90 will be very different, this 2022 K9 retains the same architecture and gets a new facelifted.
Although it was recently dropped from Kia’s U.S. auto market, the K9 luxury sedan continues on in Kia’s home market of Korea. it’s now the beneficiary of a comprehensive update that brings a new look and presumably an upgraded interior.
Outside is a wider and more substantial grille along with all new Led headlights that are VERY Audi. Outback also is a new LED light bar and there are new 19in wheels, new bumpers, and more. Unfortunately, the K9 has discontinued in the US due to selling just 305 units of cars in 2020. Though this large sedan segment is still alive in other markets around the world.

It’s refreshing to see Kia is still determined to cater to a gradually shrinking sedan segment, investing in facelifts and next-generation models. Crossovers and SUVs have taken over, but the three-box recipe is still relevant. The updated K9 comes only a few days after Hyundai revised the Grandeur sedan in its domestic market, prior to the next-gen model’s arrival planned for 2022.
