It’s no longer news that Toyota is redesigning the 4Runner for the first time in almost 13 years. Many car enthusiasts are excited about this upgrade the 4Runner will be experiencing. While Toyota has equally given hints about what the vehicle will be coming with, there are still many things about the 4Runner that is still unclear to car lovers.

Given how much improvement has been made in the vehicle in the same category as the 4Runner, for the 4Runner to be able to stand out in the market and beat its competitors, here are some of the features we are hoping the vehicle will be entering the market with.

1. The Toyota 4Runner Requires A Complete Exterior Redesign

We can all agree that the current 4Runner has tired looks and needs to be upgraded to match modern tastes in cars. The exterior of the vehicle absolutely needs an overhaul. The 4Runner had a facelift in 2013 and it has carried on until 2023. For the 4Runner to continue maintaining its reputation in the market, the 2024 model has to work on its exterior features.

2. The 2024 Toyota 4Runner Should Come With A Turbocharged Engine

The new Toyota Tundra, for instance, left behind its former engine which was a 4.6-litre V8 engine and produced 310 horsepower. Now, it’s been replaced with a twin-turbo i-FORCE V6 that produces 348 to 389 horsepower. Toyota also swapped the Tundra’s bigger 5.7-litre V8 engine that produces 378 horsepower for n i-FORCE MAX hybrid technology based on the same turbocharged V6 engine and it produces about 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque.

Currently, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner has a 4.0-litre 1GR-FE V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 278 of torque. This engine was introduced in 2010 and is already outdated. So, the 2024 4Runner has to equally upgrade in this angle. 

3. Having A Hybrid Model For The 2024 Will Help It Stand Out

Hybrid engines are fast becoming the favourite of many car owners. It’s like the safe vehicle for those who don’t want to go completely EV or those tired of 100% gas-powered vehicles go after. Currently, the 2023 4Runner is gas-powered. However, vehicles in its category like the Jeep Bronco and the Grand Cherokee make use of a turbocharged 2.0-litre l-4 engine and a hybrid electric motor.

So, if the 4Runner 2024 wants to compete favourably with these vehicles, it has to have a hybrid option. Else, customers will feel dissatisfied with the 4Runner in this area.

4. The 2024 Toyota 4Runner Deserves An Infotainment System Upgrade

One thing the 2023 Toyota 4Runner still carries around is an old instrument cluster and an outdated 8-inch infotainment system with standard (cable) Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Even the RAV4 has better infotainment than the 4Runner 2023.

For the 2024 redesign, the 4Runner needs to offer at least the same infotainment options available in the 2023 Highlander, which is an 8-inch or 12.3-inch touchscreen interface with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

5. The 2024 Toyota 4Runner Needs To Make Cabin Entry & Exit Easier

The 2023 4Runner achieved good scores when it comes to quality, reliability, and resale value. But, the vehicle only received an “average” score from JD Power’s review in the driving experience category because customers complain that it is difficult to get in and out of the vehicle’s front seats.

So, for the 2024 Toyota 4Runner to stand out, Toyota has to pay attention to making the front and back seats spacious. It’ll make it easier for drivers and their passengers to climb in and out of the 4Runner with ease.
