2024 Toyota Cars/SUV in Nigeria: Price, Review, Features, Fuel Economy

Toyota models of cars account for the highest number of vehicles on Nigerian roads. This is such that out of every five cars you see on Nigerian roads, at least one is a Toyota brand. Nigerians love driving a Toyota car because it is reliable and easy to maintain. Founded in 1937, Toyota has grown to become one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, producing a wide range of vehicles including sedans, SUVs, trucks, and hybrids. Toyota (Nigeria) Limited is the sole distributor of Toyota Motor Corporation Japan in Nigeria and it markets Toyota vehicles specifically made for Nigeria through its 7 accredited dealers across the nation. The Toyota brand was first introduced to Nigeria in 1965 by R. T. Briscoe, then its exclusive distributor. 

 Toyota is known for its focus on safety, with many of its models earning top ratings in safety tests. In addition to its automotive operations, it also has a presence in other industries including technology, finance, and renewable energy. Toyota cars have earned a reputation for reliability, durability, and quality. They are known for their excellent safety features and luxurious interiors. “Part of what helps Toyota is just impressive reliability across the board,” said Jake Fisher, Director of Automotive Testing for Consumer Reports.

Toyota provides a detailed schedule for recommended service for all of its vehicles, and each model is different. But, in general, Toyota scheduled maintenance for all models is recommended at set intervals – either every 5,000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first.

2024 Toyota RAV4

Billy Rehbock, an expert from Motortrend would say: “If you haven’t heard of the Toyota RAV4, you may be living under a rock”. The RAV4 compact SUV is the bestselling entry in its segment, facing stiff competition from the Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, and Mazda CX-50. The RAV4 may not be our favourite compact crossover, but it’s a good option if fuel economy and safety features are top of mind. 

Fuel Economy 

Toyota equips gasoline-only RAV4 models with a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that develops 203 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is paired with both the standard front-wheel drive and the available all-wheel-drive setup.

Features 

NHTSA gave the 2024 Toyota RAV4 a five-star overall safety rating because Toyota equips the RAV4 with its Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite of driver assistance equipment. Advanced features include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Front and rear automatic emergency braking are also equipped with intersection assistance to avoid collisions with vehicles or pedestrians when turning across an intersection. 

2024 Toyota Venza 

Price Range: N52,741,928 – N65,501,819

The Venza midsize SUV is more upscale than the typical Toyota. Its platform and hybrid powertrain are borrowed from the RAV4 Hybrid, but a graceful exterior design and plush interior give the Venza a premium skew. There’s only one powertrain for the 2024 Venza. It uses a 2.5-litre non-turbo inline-four and three electric motors. Toyota pegs combined output at 219 horsepower. A CVT automatic and all-wheel drive are also standard issues.

• Fuel Economy 

Fuel economy should be close to or the same as the 2023 model. That Venza was good for an impressive 40/37 mpg city/highway.

Blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic monitoring, and parking sensors are also standard.

2024 Toyota 4Runner

Price Range: N60,999,941 – N78,143,719

The days of the 4Runner an off-road SUV as we know it are numbered. The fifth-generation Toyota 4Runner first went on sale in 2010, and the 2024 model year will likely wrap up the SUV’s production run. Despite Toyota’s best efforts to keep the 4Runner fresh, its age is impossible to hide thanks to its thirsty powertrain, dated interior, and clumsy road manners. Infotainment and active driver assistance technology is lacking, too. The second row isn’t as spacious as rivals, even if cargo capacity is competitive, rivals include other burly off-road vehicles including the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler.

• Fuel Economy 

Toyota equips the 2024 4Runner with a 4.0-liter V-6 engine that develops 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission sends power to a standard rear-wheel-drive setup or an available four-wheel-drive setup.

With the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. The features include: automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear seat occupant warning. It’s worth noting that the 4Runner’s adaptive cruise control system only functions at speeds of 25 mph and higher.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser

Price Range: No current price 

The Toyota Land Cruiser is back! This off-road SUV has been a highlight of Toyota’s lineup since the 1950s, though it was discontinued in the United States after the 2021 model year. Now the Land Cruiser has returned, built on a new platform, with a new hybrid engine, a choice of front-end designs, and a long list of trail-ready features. 

• Fuel Economy 

With the exciting news of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser being a hybrid, every new 2024 Land Cruiser comes equipped with a hybrid powertrain dubbed i-Force Max. Like in the new 2024 Tacoma, it’s centered around a 2.4-liter turbocharged I-4 engine, with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. This allows for hybrid power to reach the wheels through standard 4WD. Total output from the i-Force Max powertrain measures 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy comes in at 22/25 mpg city/highway, improving on the outgoing Land Cruiser’s thirsty V-8, which got 13/17 mpg city/highway.

Every Land Cruiser configuration comes with a locking rear differential, hill descent control, off-road cruise control, and full-time 4WD with a two-speed transfer case. Higher-end versions gain terrain-specific driving modes, as well as a front-facing camera to better spot trail obstacles. Also a  front automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and full-speed adaptive cruise control

Toyota Corolla Cross

Toyota Corolla Cross is the utilitarian option within the subcompact SUV segment. Slotting below the RAV4 within Toyota’s lineup, the Corolla Cross boasts a relatively low price tag, making it a relatively strong value within its class. While the Corolla Cross is far from exciting, it’s a better basic transportation solution than a Honda HR-V. Consumers who want an efficient, spacious, and tough-looking SUV that undercuts the RAV4 will find a lot to like in the Corolla Cross.  

• Fuel Economy 

Gasoline versions of the 2024 Corolla Cross come equipped with a 2.0-litre I-4 engine developing 169 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque and a CVT automatic with a fixed starter gear. FWD is standard and all-wheel drive is available across the entire range. Front-wheel-drive models accelerate from 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds while the heavier all-wheel-drive Corolla Cross only manages to do the same in 9.3 seconds. With fuel economy measured at 31/33 mpg city/highway with FWD and 29/32 mpg with AWD.

• Features 

For 2024, Toyota offers the Corolla Cross with the edgy Nightshade Edition package which includes: gloss black 18-inch wheels, black and red seats, and dark exterior accents. Paint colours include black or two-tone combinations. Alongside standard package features including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, front automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Springing for a higher trim level adds rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring.  

2024 Toyota Highlander

Price Range: N59,095,584 – N78,141,139

For all of the Highlander’s dynamic shortcomings, this 2024 Toyota Highlander three-row SUV hits other fundamentals. The Highlander is easy to move in a parking lot and fuel economy impresses. Its ability to seat up to eight passengers makes it a compelling minivan alternative. 

• Fuel Economy 

Gasoline variants of the 2024 Toyota Highlander use a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine developing 265 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. FWD is standard and AWD is available across all trim levels, with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy measured 21-22/28-29 mpg city/highway with FWD and 21/28 mpg with AWD.

The features come with adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, front automatic emergency braking, emergency steering assist, road sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Other standard features include hill start control, trailer sway control, and downhill assist control. On higher trims, Toyota equips front and rear parking sensors as well as a 360-degree camera.  

2024 Toyota Sequoia 

Price Range: N90,757,803 – N122,144,910

The Limited Nightshade model joins the lineup for 2024 and comes with unique 20-inch TRD wheels painted in a matte black finish to match other blacked-out exterior appearance items. Platinum trims can now be had with the same TRD Off-Road package that was available on the Limited last year. The package adds an off-road suspension system with Bilstein shocks, a skid plate, an electronically controlled locking rear differential, off-road driving modes, a crawl control system, a hill-descent control function, and a few specific appearance items. Limited models with the TRD Off-Road package now also come with a blacked-out exterior appearance.

• Fuel Economy 

The 2024 Toyota Sequoia is a three-row SUV available in five trim levels: SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro and Capstone. It stands out with its powerful hybrid powertrain, bold style, and impressive towing and off-road capabilities.

Toyota equips the 2024 Sequoia with just one powertrain. A burly 3.4-litre twin-turbocharged V-6 engine pairs up with an electric motor and a 10-speed automatic transmission, sending 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels as standard or to an available four-wheel-drive system. Fuel economy at 21/22-24 mpg city/highway.

• Features 

Features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, lane centring, and traffic sign recognition. Other standard features that come equipped on all Toyota Sequoia models include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic monitoring, and parking sensors

2024 Toyota bZ4X

Price Range: No Current Price 

The base XLE now comes with a power driver’s seat and a power liftgate, while the Limited adds automated parking. The included charging cable can now connect to a 120-volt or 240-volt power source and includes a display screen with charging info. A revised battery-temperature management system is said to allow for speedier DC fast-charging in cold weather. Toyota also throws in a year of EVgo charging. The 2024 Toyota bZ4X electric SUV delivers on the fundamental promise of a comfortable electric crossover backed by Toyota’s reputation for reliability, the 2024 bZ4X is currently Toyota’s only true electric vehicle

• Fuel Economy 

The 2024 bZ4X’s electric powertrain comes in two configurations: FWD and AWD. FWD variants employ a single electric motor making 201 hp and 196 lb-ft. AWD models have a motor for each axle with a total of 214 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. The FWD model in XLE trim gets the best range of the lot with an EPA-estimated 252 miles. Moving up to the Limited trim drops range to 236 miles, and AWD models max out at 228.

Toyota has upped its charger game for 2024 and now includes a dual-volt charging cable with both trims. Improvements to the battery’s thermal system have given fast charging a boost in colder weather and the bZ4X now needs only half an hour to charge from empty to 80 per cent.

The bZ4X benefits from Toyota’s latest suite of active safety tech. Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring all come standard. Also included are sophisticated pedestrian and cyclist detection as well as adaptive cruise control and automatic high beams. The Limited trim adds an advanced parking assist as well as a surround-view camera with multiple view angles.
