2020 Nissan Pathfinder Price, Reviews, and Pictures

2020 Nissan Pathfinder – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., usually shortened to Nissan, is a Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Nishi-ku, Yokohama. The company sells its cars under the Nissan, Infiniti, and Datsun brands with in-house performance tuning products labeled Nismo.

The 2020 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition finds itself in murky waters these days. New three-row crossovers are popping up left and right, and yet Nissan trots the Pathfinder – at seven model years old – into 2020 with blinders on. A facelift in 2017 and several special editions are the only motions the company is going through to try to keep things fresh. This one, the Rock Creek Edition, found its way into our garage for a week.

In short, the Rock Creek is an appearance package. Nissan dresses up the exterior trim in black paint, covering the mesh grille, roof rails, door handles, mirror caps, and license plate finisher. Dark 18-inch wheels (that look a whole lot like the Subaru Crosstrek’s wheels) finish the look. When combined with the porcelain white paint on our tester, the overall effect is low-rent. Paint choice makes a huge difference in how this package looks. It was much more enticing on the dark green show car we saw at the Chicago Auto Show. The Rock Creek interior changes are similarly minor, yet immediately noticeable.

2020 Nissan Pathfinder Review

by the Edmunds Experts

Capable and roomy, the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder makes a decent choice for families seeking three-row utility and impressive towing capacity. The Pathfinder also makes it easy to bring along outdoor toys on trips out of town, but some of its shortcomings make it less compelling than newer rivals.

For 2020, the Pathfinder carries over unchanged. Last year’s updates included adding front- and second-row USB-C ports and a trickle-down to lower trim levels of advanced driver aids such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Rock Creek appearance package, which debuted last year, returns for 2020 and dusts the Pathfinder with a bit of mojo from its earliest days as a formidable off-road SUV.

Today’s three-row family crossover Pathfinder shares nothing but a name with the original issue model, but it’s still a capable SUV in other ways. It’s one of the few three-row SUVs that can tow up to 6,000 pounds regardless of trim level, thanks to a torque-rich 3.5-liter V6 engine. Only the Dodge Durango is rated for heavier towing. All Pathfinders also offer optional all-wheel drive.

The 2020 Nissan Pathfinder comes in four trim levels: SSVSL, and Platinum. All trims come with a 3.5-liter V6 engine (284 horsepower, 259 lb-ft of torque) paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is optional and includes hill descent control and a special locking function for extra traction. All Pathfinders can tow up to 6,000 pounds.

The trim comes with a decent set of features and surprises, including roof rails, three-zone climate control, and a sliding/reclining second-row seat. In-cabin tech includes Bluetooth, an 8-inch touchscreen interface, a six-speaker sound system with CD/HD radio/satellite radio, and dual USB ports (one Type-A and one Type C) for both front and rear passengers. Automatic emergency braking and reverse parking sensors also come standard.

Moving up to the SV adds a few more driver assistance features, such as blind-spot warning and adaptive cruise control, as well as amenities such as a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Next up is the SL, our recommended trim. It offers several more premium features than the SV for a reasonable price increase, with highlights that include a hands-free liftgate, heated front, and rear seats, leather upholstery, and a navigation system.

2020 Nissan Pathfinder Safety Features

Anti-lock brakes

ABS brakes automatically sense when a tire has stopped rotating under extreme braking and will modulate the brake pressure to allow the tire to rotate. This increases the vehicle’s ability to turn while braking.

Stability control

Stability control automatically senses when the vehicle handling limits have been exceeded and reduces engine power and/or applies select brakes to help prevent the driver from losing control of the vehicle.

Front-impact airbags

Front-impact airbags for the driver and passenger have been designed to protect the head during a frontal crash.

Side impact airbags

Side impact airbags for the front seats have been designed to protect the torso during a side impact collision.

Overhead airbags

Overhead airbags are used to protect the occupant’s heads in the event of a side collision or rollover.

Pretensioners

Seatbelt pretensioners automatically tighten seatbelts to place the occupant in the optimal seating position during a collision.

Security system

The vehicle is equipped with a means of anticipating and/or detecting unwanted vehicle intrusion. The vehicle is equipped with an ignition disable device that will prevent the engine from starting if the correct original manufacturer key is not used.

Nissan doesn’t change or update the 2020 Pathfinder in any meaningful way. The rugged-looking Rock Creek Edition that was introduced last year is still available. However, those who hope the heritage-inspired package actually packs some legitimate off-road equipment will be disappointed.
