2020 Lexus GS350 – The 2020 Lexus GS350 comes in two main versions: base and F Sport. Both use a 3.5-liter V6 (311 horsepower, 280 lb-ft of torque), an eight-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel is optional, but it comes with a six-speed automatic instead of an eight-speed.

Standard equipment for the base GS 350 with rear-wheel drive includes 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and leather upholstery. You also get a navigation system, a 12.3-inch display screen, and a 12-speaker sound system. Advanced driving aids include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and mitigation, a blind-spot monitor, and pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking.

2020 Lexus GS 350 review

The rear-wheel-drive F Sport ups the ante on handling with more aggressive styling, 19-inch wheels with summer performance tires, a sport-tuned adaptive suspension and bigger front brakes. It offers the option of four-wheel steering or a limited-slip rear differential. All-wheel drive is available, but it’s not quite as sporty. It also doesn’t offer the option of four-wheel steering or the limited-slip rear differential.

On all GS 350s, key stand-alone options include an automated parking system, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, a power trunk lid, and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.

2020 Lexus GS Safety

Because it hasn’t seen a redesign since 2013, the GS hasn’t been evaluated in all of the IIHS’ safety tests. That said, the car was named a 2013 IIHS Top Safety pick when new, with the highest possible scores in the three crashworthiness tests it was evaluated in (moderate overlap front, side, and roof strength).

Every GS model also comes standard with Lexus Safety System+, which includes stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist.

The standard GS 350 starts with a 3.5-liter V-6, an eight-speed automatic, and RWD. AWD is available with the V-6, but it uses a six-speed auto. Also standard are 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights, heated auto-dimming and power-folding side mirrors with puddle lights and integrated turn signals.

Inside, there’s a power moonroof, leatherette upholstery, 10-way power front seats, an analog clock, power tilt, and telescope steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, a 12.3-inch infotainment system with built-in navigation and app functionality, and 12-speaker audio. All models come standard with Lexus Safety System+, which features full-speed adaptive cruise control, auto high beams, and lane-keep assist.

RWD cars come standard with the Premium package, which adds heated and ventilated front seats, a leather-trimmed interior, a power rear sunshade, and rain-sensing wipers.

2020 Lexus GS 350 Performance and Fuel Economy

Most GS models are powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine spinning either just the rears or all four wheels. RWD models pair the six-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic; AWD models mate their powerplants with a six-speed auto. Regardless of drive type or trim, the naturally aspirated V-6 develops 311 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. GS models are rated at 19-20/26-28 mpg city/highway. Last time we tested one in 2017, a RWD GS 350 F Sport hit 60 in 5.9 seconds.

Fear not; the F Sport is not the most performance-focused variant of the GS. That title goes to the GS F, which swaps the standard model’s V-6 for a 467-hp V-8, and it’s RWD only. Other hardware upgrades include a torque-vectoring rear differential, Brembo brakes, and dual-mode quad exhaust. When we took one to our test track, the GS F hustled to 60 in 4.4 seconds, making glorious free-breathing V-8 noises on its way there. Considering the performance gains, efficiency doesn’t take too much of a hit. The GS F is EPA-rated at 16/24 mpg.
