Toyota is in their quirky era clearly with this one-off Crown Crossover Four Door convertible…. Yeah, you read that right. This project comes after the Century SUV Convertible which was created as a parade vehicle in Japan. This next weird creation also comes out of Japan and there are some things to note.

Powering the Crown will start with a 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid with 2 electric motors and up to 38MPG. Then comes the Hybrid Max with a turbo 2.4L four-cylinder with two electric motors. That gives the fanciest Crown a total output of 340 horsepower, but this version only returns a manufacturer-estimated 28 mpg combined. The Hybrid Max gets a unique E-Four electric AWD system with up to 80% of the power going to the rear wheels.

The roof is well… gone, with a frameless design and a custom black trim piece to make up for there being no rear glass. The interior can still seat five and it features a light trim. As it is a one-off, there is no retractable convertible roof at all so I guess you can call this a roadster. Where did this project come from? Toyota engineers had a little too much time on their hands.
